History & Mission

Mississippi Bangla Academy was founded in 1997 by a group of Bengali expatriates of Mississippi .  

Founding members: Kunal Ghosh, Susmita Ghosh, Shahnaz Islam, Laiju Karim, Nusrat Khansur, Naila Mamoon, Quazi T. Islam and Md Sarwar Zaman

The two primary objectives of the academy were: 

(1) to offer Bangla language and music lessons to local Bengali children, and 

(2) to promote Bangla arts and culture inMississippi and the USA
