Safwan and Emaad completed high school (Posted September 09, 2007)

We extend our congratulations to Safwan Karim, son of Drs. Rezwanul Karim and Laiju Karim on his high school graduation.  Safwan will be attending University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS, to pursue a B.S. degree in pharmacy. 

We also congratulate Emaad Khansur, son of Drs.  Towfiq Khansur and Nusrat Khansur for completing his high school.  Emaad will be pursuing a B.S. degree in Chemistry at the University of Miami, Miami, FL.

 

Jainal Parvez completed Master of Science from JSU (Posted May 28, 2007)

Jainal Parvez has completed his M.S. in Telecommunication Engineering from Jackson State University , Jackson , MS .  His convocation was held on May 12, 2007.  Parvez also earned his B.S. from JSU, double majoring in Computer Science and Meteorology. 

 
 

Dr. Amal Mitra honored with a Fulbright Grant for Bangladesh   (Posted May 15, 2007)

Dr. Amal Mitra, Professor of the University of Southern Mississippi,  has been awarded a highly prestigious “Fulbright Grant” from the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Under this program, Dr. Mitra will be working in Bangladesh from fall 2007 for six months, and help North South University in curriculum development and teaching for their Masters program in Public Health. Dr. Mitra will also carry out a research on lead poisoning among 300 school children in Dhaka, Bangladesh.  Dr. Mitra is a recipient of 15 other awards including The Aubrey Lucus Award for Excellence in Service in 2007 and The Innovation Award for Applied Research in 2004.  He authors more than 70 original research articles, and several  book chapters. Dr. Mitra received numerous grants that total over $1.4 million. He is a proud father of his two children, Amlan and Paromita.

 

Dr. Shaila Khan honored as a Distinguished Professor (Posted May 14, 2007)

Dr. Shaila Khan, Chair and Associate Professor of Psychology at Tougaloo College, is the recipient of this year's  "The Distinguished Professor" award. This award was given to Dr. Khan in honor of  distinctive commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence, dedication to scholarship in the liberal arts, student advocacy for leadership, and civic responsibility. Dr. Shaila Khan is leaving for Dhaka on May 14, and will be joining  North South University as a visiting Professor.  She will be teaching "Organizational Behavior and Management " for the BBA and MBA programs. She will also be collecting data for her Cross Cultural research. Dr. Khan will return to Jackson, MS, on August 9.

 

Nasrin Karim honored  with a summer internship USC  (Posted May 14, 2007)

 

Nasrin Karim (Shanta), an undergraduate student at the Department of Computer Engineering, Jackson State University, Jackson, MS, is awarded an internship at the Institute of Creative Technology, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, for summer of 2007. Shanta is also a recent recipient of an “International Student Award” at Jackson State University. The award was given on April 20, 2007, at an annual banquet. JSU honored three students with this award.

 

Nabahan elected as Student Body President (Posted May 14, 2007)

Nabhan Karim, an 8th Grader at Jackson Prep, Jackson, has been elected as the student body President for 2007-2008.  Nabhan is the second son of Dr. Rezwanul Karim and Laiju Karim of Brandon, MS.
